Michael Block says if he had McIlroy’s drives, he’d be among the world’s best

Seemingly overnight, Michael Block has become a hot topic in the golf world after his fairytale story and viral hole-in-one at last weekend’s the PGA Championship.

On the Block RipperMagoo podcast with Bob Menery, he dropped a scorching-hot take, saying the one difference between him and Rory McIlroy is their driving length.

“Oh, my God, what I would shoot from where Rory hits it would be stupid,” Block said on the podcast. “I think I’d be one of the best players in the world.”

Block, a club pro, finished 1-over on the weekend in a tie for 15th at the PGA Championship and became the Cinderella story of the tournament. He was paired with McIlroy in the final round of the tournament.

After competing alongside the superstar and seeing his talents up close, Block’s takeaway was that if he could drive it the way McIlroy does, he would be one of the best in the game.

“Hands down. If I had that stupid length, all day. My iron game, wedge game, around the greens and my putting is world-class,” Block said on the podcast.

McIlroy, who has 23 wins on the PGA Tour and four majors wins, finished at a 2-under for the weekend and tied for seventh place.

When Block hit his ace on the 15th hole in the final round, he shared an embrace with the former World No. 1-ranked golfer.

“Rory was awesome. It is amazing. I am enjoying this moment,” Block said in his post-round interview last weekend. “I have learned this after 46 years of life. It is not going to get any better than this.”

Before the PGA Championship, Block had played in two PGA Tour events this season, missing the cut at both the American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open in January.

He is currently competing at the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Texas. He also earned a sponsor invite to the RBC Canadian Open in June.
