‘My GOAT’: WNBA fans react to Candace Parker’s surprise retirement

The same day training camp began for multiple teams ahead of the WNBA season, soon-to-be Hall of Famer Candance Parker shocked everyone by announcing her retirement after 16 years.

Parker, 38, was a three-time champion, two-time MVP, seven-time All-Star, two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time national collegiate champion.

After winning a title with the Las Vegas Aces in 2023 she signed a non-guaranteed deal in February to return and help the franchise try and win three consecutive championships.

Unfortunately, those plans changed abruptly as she hasn’t been able to properly recover from foot surgery that kept her out for the second half of last season. Her announcement to retire came via her Instagram less than an hour before training camp began for Las Vegas.

Initial surprise by the WNBA world quickly shifted in celebration for one of the greatest to ever do it. Here are some of the best reactions:
