Paul Rudd was on hand Sunday to watch his Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime to win Super Bowl 58.
It isn’t the first time he has witnessed the Chiefs win the Lombardi Trophy, but it was the first in which he was rocking a former Alabama star’s jersey.
Rudd, the 54-year-old star of “Ant Man” brought his son Jack, 18, to the game.
Jack was sporting a white Chiefs No. 22 Trent McDuffie jersey. Meanwhile, the actor -who was rocking a mustache – wore former Alabama star Derrick Thomas’ retired No. 58 jersey.
Thomas died on Feb. 8, 2000, after being injured in a traffic accident.
After a College Football Hall of Fame career at Alabama, Thomas joined Kansas City as the fourth selection in the 1989 NFL Draft.
Thomas was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and a first-team All-Pro in 1990 and 1991. Thomas led the league with 20 sacks in 1990 and set an NFL single-game record with seven sacks against the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 11, 1990. With 126.5, Thomas ranks 17th on the NFL’s career sacks list.
Back in 2020, the actor, who is from Kansas City, was seen celebrating the Chiefs with his son after they won Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Cameras caught Rudd embracing Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes on the field after their win over the San Francisco 49ers — and the actor couldn’t have been happier.
At Alabama, Thomas won the Butkus Award in 1988 and was named an All-American in a season which ended with a 29-28 win over Army in the 1988 Sun Bowl. Thomas was posthumously inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
