A Connecticut man has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a child after information came to light during an unrelated investigation by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families.

According to the East Haven Police Department, 49-year-old Widman Vicuna-Rodriguez was arrested in connection with a 2023 sexual assault investigation that was referred to police by DCF after information came to light during an unrelated investigation.

In July 2023, East Haven Detective Monique Colbert was contacted by DCF, who advised her that information regarding an alleged sexual assault was revealed during an unrelated investigation, police said. During that investigation, it was alleged that Vicuna-Rodriguez sexually assaulted a relative in 2017 during a gathering at his East Haven home while others were not present, according to police.

Colbert applied for, and was granted, an arrest warrant for Vicuna-Rodriguez, who turned himself in on Friday and was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child, police said.

Vicuna-Rodriguez was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail and appeared in court in New Haven on Friday, according to police.
