Pop Pie Co. teams up with Heritage Barbecue for savory pie collaboration – Orange County Register

The good news? It’s a hand-held pie stuffed with smoked pulled pork and mac and cheese. The sad news? It’s only available for one day.

Pop Pie Co., the San Diego-based restaurant noted for its signature all-butter crust pies, celebrated the reopening of its Costa Mesa location after closing for renovations. To help mark the occasion, the eatery has teamed up with Heritage Barbecue for a savory pie collaboration.

The Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Mac a Cheese pie will be available exclusively at Pop Pie Co.’s Costa Mesa shop on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Rooted in a mutual respect for each other’s concept and work, the idea came about during a Pi Day brainstorm at Pop Pie Co. “Two years ago, as we were brainstorming ideas for creating something truly special for our patrons for Pi Day, we envisioned incorporating Heritage’s amazing BBQ pork into one of our pies,” said Pop Pie Co. founder Steven Torres. “It was then that we reached out to Danny Castillo, the founder of Heritage BBQ. Danny’s warmth and passion for his craft made the collaboration a natural fit, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

While the pie won’t be available for Pi Day, the annual March 14 celebration of the mathematical constant π, it will be up for grabs this coming Saturday.

In addition to the one-day-only offering, the first 20 parties in line will get a free pint of Stella Jean’s Ice Cream’s Guava Cream Cheese flavor with purchase. After the first 20 pints are handed out gratis, it will be available in scoops and limited pints for purchase.
