Los Angeles Angels centre fielder Mike Trout needs knee surgery, according to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez and Jeff Passan. The surgery is not expected to end the three-time MVP’s season.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian said that Trout suffered a torn meniscus and that there is currently no timetable for his return.
The surgery is expected to take place on Friday.
Trout entered play Tuesday tied for the MLB lead in home runs with 10 while posting an .867 OPS. He has also stolen six bases already this season, tied for the total he has swiped in the four previous years combined.
The 32-year-old has, of course, been hampered by injury throughout his career and has only played more than 100 games once since 2019 and missed 249 games over the past three seasons.
He was limited to just 82 games in 2023 due to a broken hamate bone.
An 11-time All-Star, Trout has 378 home runs, a .299/.410/.581 slash line in 1518 career games. In addition to his three MVP trophies, Trout is a nine-time Silver Slugger, the 2012 AL Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Star Game MVP.
The Angels are currently fourth in the AL West with an 11-18 record.
