Road House Star Daniela Melchior Wants to Reprise Her Suicide Squad Role in James Gunn’s DCU That’s Likely Not Happening

The up-and-coming actress Daniela Melchior has taken her career leaping in the entertainment industry by scoring roles in two of the industry’s most dominating franchises, i.e., the DC Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Besides these, she also scored the role of Ellie, one of the main characters in the recently released Road House remake.

But if there’s one franchise she looks forward to returning to, that’s James Gunn’s DCU. In fact, she even mentioned that she is most certainly “open” to reprising her iconic role from 2021’s critically-commended masterpiece, The Suicide Squad: That of Ratcatcher 2. However, that event seems inevitably unlikely because of one of Gunn’s decisions for the DC reboot.

Daniela Melchior is Open to Playing Ratcatcher 2 Again

Released in 2021, Melchior’s debut movie in the DC Universe was a masterpiece, acclaimed by both fans and critics, even though it failed to fare its much-deserved share at the global box office. One of the most liked characters from this movie was none other than that of the Ratcatcher 2.

Embodied by Daniela Melchior, the character stood out perfectly in all aspects, and by the end of the movie, fans were already looking forward to having more of her. While that “more” is yet to be heard of, the actress has expressed her desire to reprise her role nonetheless.

During a recent interview with Nestor Cine, the Guardians of the Galaxy alum was aaskedfor her take on what she would like to do if she gets the golden ticket to Gunn’s DC Universe reboot: Continue her character’s story or explore other roles? To this, she initially responded:

“I’m open to explore another [DC] character.”

However, she was quick to follow up to express her desire to reprise her iconic role. Continuing, she said:

“But I’m also open to explore more Ratcatcher 2 background or even like her future. I’ve been saying that Ratcatcher 2 is taking a nap right now, but I can’t wait to wake her up.”

There you have it: Melchior’s all willing and ready to revive her “so good, fantastic, so emotional, so intense” performance as Ratcatcher 2! Yet, as much good news as it may be for fans, there is a high chance her dream might not come true… because of the DC Universe’s co-CEO.

Daniela Melchior’s Dream May Not Come True… Because of James Gunn

Although both Melchior as well as DC fans seem to be patiently awaiting the announcement to see the actress as Ratcatcher 2 in a sequel to the 2021 masterpiece, that dream appears unlikely after the co-CEO of DC Universe seemingly revealed that the prequel is not canon in the reboot.

While it is true that James Gunn confirmed the making of Peacemaker season 2 and a spin-off that would circle around Amanda Walker’s story — both of whom notably stemmed from the Suicide Squad saga, his one statement has pointed out his uninterestedness in making the saga a canon.

On a social media platform (via Reddit), Gunn was asked to comment on the confusion regarding Nathan Fillion’s future in the DC Universe as TDK (aka The Detachable Kid) since the actor had joined the reboot in a different role (he is cast as Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman).

To this, the filmmaker had the most concise answer ever that not only shared about Nathan Fillion in the universe but also seemingly confirmed his plans for Task Force X in the DC Universe reboot. He said:

“DC Studios movies (and canon) start with Legacy [now renamed ‘Superman’].”

That being said, it seems inevitable that Melchior’s dream to play Ratcatcher 2 once again in Task Force X might remain just a dream. Nonetheless, it doesn’t eliminate the chances of a solo film/series for the character in the new DC Universe.

Still, fans can only hope for the best for now for the future of Ratcatcher 2 and Melchior in the DC Universe.
