WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The U.S. Senate has passed a bill to provide nearly $1 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

The bill had the support of both Democrats and Republicans in the Senate, but it was conservatives who say they have no interest in providing any more money to Ukraine.

“Today, we witnessed one of the most historic and consequential bills to have ever passed the Senate,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

A small group of conservatives held the Senate floor for hours to protest the $60 billion going to Ukraine because they want a border security deal.

“Border security. Portions of that bill didn’t do what we committed to do,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah.)

While the debate over foreign aid was taking place at the Capitol Monday, President Joe Biden met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the White House.

The two leaders also discussed bolstering humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“And hundreds of thousands have no access to food, water or other basic services,” said Biden.

The House has already said they won’t bring the bill to the floor for a vote.
