OAKLAND — The California Highway Patrol closed at least two lanes of westbound Interstate 580 in East Oakland after a police response to an unspecified incident Thursday, authorities said.
Shortly after 2:15 p.m., CHP officers responded to a report of a driver seeing a vehicle flipped on its side in westbound lanes east of the Keller Avenue off-ramp, with traffic stopped behind them.
The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 2:35 p.m., saying that the roadway’s Nos. 3 and 4, or right-hand lanes, were blocked. There was no estimated time of reopening, and Interstate 880 was recommended as an alternate route.
According to an Oakland Fire Department spokesman, firefighters were dispatched to the incident but cancelled en route. There was no immediate report on any possible injuries, but a law enforcement presence was visible at the scene in some reports.
