OAKLAND — A 25-year-old mother of four asleep inside her East Oakland home was in critical condition Monday morning after someone deliberately fired multiple shots into the residence from outside, authorities said.
None of the four young children or other adults inside the home were injured.
The shooting happened about 1:19 a.m. Monday at an apartment in the 1400 block of 92nd Avenue.
Police said the woman was asleep in a bedroom when at least one person standing outside fired multiple rounds through a bedroom wall, hitting her once in the back.
Authorities believe the woman was the intended target but a motive has not yet been confirmed.
The shooter fled before police and paramedics got to the apartment.
Authorities said the shooting is not connected to a fatal shooting Friday night in the Laurel district where a 42-year-old mother of two died after she was hit by a stray bullet fired from a block away.
The woman was lying on a couch about 9:40 p.m. Friday inside her home in the 3600 block of 38th Avenue when she was hit by the bullet. She died later at a hospital.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $7,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter in the 92nd Avenue case. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
