Stellar Blade‘s protagonist Eve has garnered quite a lot of attention. The female protagonist is designed after a Korean model. The developers also mentioned that they paid special attention to Eve’s backside since that is what the players were going to see for the most part of the gameplay.

This faced a lot of backlash from people who criticized the developers for over-sexualizing the character. On the other hand, there were also people who came out in support of the developers. Interestingly, the physical features aren’t the only factor that the developers paid extra attention to.

The secret behind Eve’s action

During an interview with a Japanese publication Ruliweb, developer Shift Up Command and General Director Hyeong-tae Kim revealed the secrets behind Eve’s action sequences. Kim was asked about the processes they undertook to create Eve’s acrobatic movements in the demo as they made her look like a gymnast competing at the Olympics.

To this, he said,

“As I featured an attractive female warrior as the main character, I wanted to give it a different feel from the typical male action scenes. So, I actually tried to express acrobatic movements by taking a lot of inspiration from ballet and gymnastics. Although ‘Stella Blade’ is our first console title, the main development team has worked together once on a major game in the past.”

Notably, Kim has worked as an Assistant Director for the game ‘Blade & Soul‘ in the past. He credits his past experience as the reason why he was able to deliver such a high-quality result.

Stellar Blade‘s Eve has an Adam too

Although Eve is the primary playable character in Stellar Blade, she does have a male acquaintance named Adam. He is an an earthly friend who helps Eve complete her mission even if it is on her own. While Eve will be seen directly battling in the field, Adam will be seen following and supporting her with a drone.

Talking about this, Kim says,

“The drop-off unit is comprised entirely of women, and you can find out why that is the case in this episode. In the story, Earth is littered with extremely powerful enemies called Natives, so ordinary people can’t even move around the streets. Eve is a warrior who came down to kill the Native, so she stands up to him confidently, but Adam finds it difficult to do so, so he uses a drone to help him. When it comes to allocating roles, it is not important whether it is a woman or a man, but it happens naturally due to the setting and the flow of the story.”

Kim was further asked if Adam would be playable too, and he replied,

“There are not many single-player games in Korea that are narrative-oriented and have a clear ending. So, for ‘Stella Blade’, we decided that it was very important to move the story forward while immersing ourselves in the main character, Eve.”

Thus, the game director confirmed that Eve will be the only playable character in the game, while other characters like Adam and Lily will be non-playable.
