The workers at RIK went on a one-hour strike from 1330 to 1430 protesting the non-payment of March salaries.
In his statements to KYPEthe General Secretary tof SIDIKEK-PEO Nikos Grigoriou he said that according to the law workers should be paid on the last day of the month. “This has not been done and you realize it creates a lot of issues. Workers are family heads, people with loans, liabilities that are exposed and depend on their salary to be okay with their obligations,” he said.
The unions had announced more far-reaching measures, he continued, but after yesterday’s official briefing by the Board of Directors of the actions taken by the Board of Directors itself as well as our own involvement as SIDIKEK-PEO and OHO-SEK that we saw and agreed with the Ministers of the Interior, Finance and Labor, we found that a very great effort was made by everyone.

Nevertheless, he added, the workers have decided to go on a one-hour strike today from 1330 to 1430 at RIK to send the message that the last day cannot come and it is doubtful whether they will be paid and other problems that exist in the RIK.
“If by hope the salaries are not paid on Tuesday, the measures will peak, but according to the assurances we have, they leave us satisfied that the salaries will be paid”, he noted.
From the side of Andreas Ilias of OHO-SEK he said the reasons why the March payments were not made is because the RIK budget was delayed to be approved since it had just been approved by the House of Representatives and on the other hand because the issue of compensation to Evdokia Loizou, the RIK employee who is facing health problems, happened whose lawyer froze RIK’s accounts until the compensation was paid.
