The work of “The Symposium in the Time of the Plague” as well as the related studies carried out, will be exhibited in April by the well-known Cypriot painter, Andreas Charalambous.

The exhibition will be hosted by the “Gallery Chora” (Adamantiou Korai 1, Archbishop’s Square, Nicosia), from 15 to 30 April 2024, while the opening will be celebrated by the General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou (15.04.2024, 19:30 ).

In his statements, Andreas Charalambous said: “The peculiarity of this exhibition is that it is about the presentation of a single work. The name of the project is “The Symposium in Plague Time”. Together with the project, the studies made for it will be presented. It is my little rock in the concerns of society and the intellect regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been painted during the quarantine and restrictive measures, from March 2020 to March 2022. The sources of inspiration can be found in Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin’s Little Tragedy of the same name, written at the beginning of the 19th century, when the plague was ravaging the countries of Europe.

The historian and art critic Dr. Eleni Nikita will speak about the work as well as the creator himself.

The organizers of the exhibition are the Culture Department of the Central Committee of AKEL and the Provincial Cultural Office of AKEL Nicosia-Kerynia.
