Tigers’ Riley Greene to undergo season-ending surgery

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday in Dallas.

Greene has been on the injured list since he jammed the elbow while making a diving catch on Sept. 1 in Chicago.

The Tigers did not specify what procedure Greene will undergo, although more details are expected to be released after the surgery is completed.

Greene, who turns 23 later this month, has come into his own in his second season in the big leagues, hitting .288 with 11 home runs, 19 doubles and four triples in 416 plate appearances. His .796 OPS and 116 OPS+ are second on the team behind Kerry Carpenter.

In other injury news, left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will not be going on the injured list for now. He exited his start mid-batter on Monday night after experiencing mid-back spasms.

He will continue to be monitored but could make his next start, which is relatively set for Sunday.

This story will be updated.
