
MASON, Ohio — The top five hitters in the UConn batting order – led by cleanup hitter Ben Huber – accounted for 10 hits and nine runs to lift the Huskies to a 10-1 win over Georgetown on Friday to stay alive in the Big East Conference tournament.
Top seed UConn must now win two games on Saturday against No. 2 Xavier to win the tournament title. The first game is scheduled for 2 p.m., with a second game at 5:30 p.m. should the Huskies win the opener.
Huber provided the key blow in the game, a three-run third-inning home run that accounted for three of his five RBI.
In addition, David Smith, Paul Tammaro, Dom Freeberger and Jake Studley each had two hits. Smith, Tammaro and Studley each scored two runs and Freeberg had two RBI.
Andrew Sears went eight innings, allowing a run on five hits with eight strikeouts for the win.
