The need to find a solution regarding the inequality that exists in the rents between industrial areas and craft zones was discussed again today during the session of the Parliamentary Committee on the Interior. As AKEL Member of Parliament, Giannakis Gavriel, said after the Committee meeting, announcements are expected from the involved Ministries.

As stated in his statements by Mr. Gabriel, in 2013 by decision of the then Government and with the consent of the KEBE, rents in industrial areas were modified. As for the artisanal zones, he said, instead of remaining the same, in 2021 the rents were retroactively requested, calling on artisans and micro-artisans to pay 20,000-30,000 euros for arrears.

“When the matter was registered, we expected it to be resolved soon,” Mr. Gabriel said, noting that it has been three years since then. “Today’s session was a clear mockery of the two Ministries to the Parliament, because while clear questions had been asked last November, which they promised then that they would respond in writing to those affected, within 15 days, today they told us that they are not ready and that they will the two Ministries make an announcement”, he added, concluding that “when an issue is discussed in any Committee of the Parliament, it should receive the corresponding respect”.
