There are very few animated shows that have gained a cult following to the level of DC’s Young Justice and it is not hard to see why, considering just how influential the four seasons of the show have been, despite being canceled a couple of times.

Interestingly enough, in the age where Marvel continues to overwork their VFX team and does not even properly compensate them for their hard work, the team at Young Justice have taken a whole different approach to this matter.

While speaking in a 2021 interview with DC, Young Justice showrunners Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti talked about the show.

Greg Weisman explained that the landscape of international animation production has evolved alongside increased demand. To ensure top-quality work from overseas studios, they had to reassess our content delivery methods and strengthen our partnerships.

”The world of producing animation internationally has changed with the increase in production. Getting the best work from overseas studios required us to rethink a bit how we delivered content and how to be better partners.”

Brandon added that the local market for talented artists has become highly competitive due to the animation industry’s current boom. Understanding that every aspect of their storytelling must be visually represented, they aimed to strike a balance between our intricate narratives and providing our artists with the creative space they need.

There’s a pretty competitive market to find great artists locally as well because of the current animation boom. So, knowing that whatever we write must be drawn, we strive to balance the complex stories we’re known for against the goal of giving our artists the room they need to do their best work without overworking them. As each new story is produced, we’re constantly pivoting and adjusting as we strive to hit that goal. From season to season, learning how to do this never stops, but hopefully we get better at it each time.

With each new project, they continuously adapt and refine their approach to achieve this goal. Learning and improving their methods was an ongoing process from season to season.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant while promoting Justice League: Crisis on Infinite EarthsPart One, Nolan North, who voices multiple characters in the movie, was asked about the possibility of Young Justice season 5.

While an official renewal for the next season hasn’t happened, Nolan emphasized that Young Justice has not been canceled. He expressed hope for another season, citing the show’s popularity among fans and the passion of its creators, Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti.

Well, we have Warner Brothers people on the Zoom right now, I’m telling you guys, we can do this. We can make another season. I don’t know, I’m not privy to that. I know it’s a hit. I know fans want it desperately. I don’t know, I wish I did. We were so fortunate to get [to do the first two] seasons and three and four. As you know, if you saw season four, Superboy had a big storyline in that and it was so much fun. I love Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti, we just have so much fun. They’re so passionate about their stories. So fingers crossed that something gets done. Maybe in the future. I don’t think there’s plans right now. But we always say we’re not canceled, we just haven’t been picked up yet. That’s how I always feel about this show. So nobody’s ever definitively said there will no longer be any [more] Young Justice. Now, if tomorrow, they put that article out there, it’s our fault you understand that right? [laughs]

Nolan mentioned that while there are no current plans for season 5, he remains optimistic about its future. He humorously added that until an official statement is made, Young Justice is not canceled, but simply awaiting renewal.
