Invincible Season 2 recently released the penultimate episode of the season, and fans are reeling from all the new developments in the show. The adult animated show on Amazon Prime, created by Robert Kirkman, has been a fan favorite ever since the first season premiered back in 2021. Now, with two seasons in, fans are equally, if not even more excited, for what is to come next.
In the most recent episode of the show, one of the most controversial Invincible characters from the comic – Anissa – was introduced. Anissa is a Viltrumite warrior who has come to Earth to assess Mark’s progress – for the Viltrumite Empire’s acquisition of planet Earth. Let’s learn a little more about this character.
Anissa Voice Actor is Collecting Superhero Roles Like Infinity Stone
Anissa is a warrior from the planet Viltrium, who has come to Earth to see what progress has been made by Mark for the Viltrumite Empire to take over as the ruler of the planet. The character is being voiced by Shantel VanSanten, whom you know from shows like One Tree Hill, The Flash, and The Boys. Invincible marks the third project in her career that belongs to the superhero genre.
In The Flash, VanSanten played Patty Spivot in season 2 – a detective in the Central City Police Department, and while helping Barry Allen and his friends solve metahuman cases, enters into a relationship with the Scarlet Speedster. But after learning of his superhero identity, she breaks up with him, with the intention of remaining friends before quitting the CCPD to become a CSI in Midway City.
Coming to The Boys, the actress played Becca Butcher, wife to Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, in the series. Midway through season 2, Becca parts ways with Billy, with her son Ryan, because of Billy’s hatred for the boy. Viewers have not seen or heard from her character since, so she is probably (hopefully), living a quiet life with Ryan, away from the eyes of his father, Homelander.

Invincible Season 2: Who is Anissa?
Anissa makes her first appearance in the series by showing up in the middle of Mark and Amber’s date. She threatens to kill Amber if Mark refuses to speak to her and gets him to have a conversation with her. Later in the episode, she helps Mark save humans from a monster attack but still remains critical of humanity in general. At the end of the episode, we see her on her way back to Viltrumite to report about Mark’s resistance against the Empire.
In the comics, after the Viltrumite war ends, Anissa comes to Earth to repopulate the Viltrumite Empire. She tells Mark that though she does not like humans, she would settle for mating with Mark because of his Viltrumite heritage. She r*pes him, in turn getting pregnant with Mark’s child – Markus. This is one of the most controversial storylines from the comics, and chances are, it won’t be repeated in the show, given the creator has been making a lot of changes to characters and stories from the comics while adapting them to the animated series.
