AKRON, Ohio — A 27-year-old woman is charged with murder and felonious assault after she was accused of shooting and killing a man following an argument, police say.
Kaelyn Smith, 27, is being held in the Summit County Jail in connection with the shooting death of Brandon Colter, 27, of Akron. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office says Colter died of a gunshot wound to the head/neck.
Police say the shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Kenmore neighborhood. Colter and a friend reportedly went to a home on the 1200 block of Kohler Avenue and ended up arguing with residents at the home about unspecified property.
Colter and his friend, who was driving, left the residence, but police say Smith followed them to the intersection of 27th Street Southwest and Carey Avenue. Smith is accused of firing a shot into the vehicle as it sat at the intersection, hitting Colter.
Colter was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital by his friend but died of his wounds.
Police say Smith fled the area after the shooting but was arrested when she returned to the residence on Kohler Avenue. Officers reportedly were in the home preparing to search it when Kohler returned.
