Cardinals add starter Kyle Gibson on one-year, $12M deal

For the second day in a row, the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to terms with a veteran starter to boost their rotation.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals and right-hander agreed to a one-year contract worth $12 million, according to multiple reports.

The move comes after the Cardinals brought back Lance Lynn on a one-year, $10-million deal Monday.

Gibson, 36, was an important part of the Baltimore Orioles rotation in 2023, pitching 192 innings with a 4.73 ERA and 2.6 fWAR. He was also nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to a player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team,” for the third time in his career.

Gibson and Lynn will fill a void left by the retirement of Adam Wainwright and the departure of Jack Flaherty in free agency. The Cardinals starters had a 5.08 ERA last season, fifth-worst in the majors.
