“Today, the question is not how to further increase the state’s revenues, but to keep the production fabric, the middle class and small and medium enterprises on the right track, so that they continue to generate jobs and future revenues for the state. If the middle class and small and medium-sized businesses are irreparably affected, then in the medium term the state’s revenues will also decrease”, says the Spokesperson of the DISY and Member of Parliament, Onoufrios Koullas, noting that the government fails to realize that the conditions in the economy are not static and that today they are quite different compared to a few years ago.

“For example, until 2 years ago we had very low interest rates, while today we have the exact opposite. We have the same for food and energy prices” he explains and adds that “extraordinary and temporary support measures with an emphasis on vulnerable groups of the population are definitely needed and help. However, because we unfortunately predict that the cost of living will continue to rise in the coming years, a holistic approach is now needed and not one-off measureswhich the government indulges in every 1-2 months”.

Mr. Koullas refers to measures based on serious and correct assessments, “not populist, unfeasible and wishy-washy proposals of other parties. Policy measures that will achieve permanent and substantial results and that will ensure social cohesion and the stability of our economy and not the other way around.”

“We had already said that the 5% increase in child benefit is insufficient, at least for families with three and many children. It is also on the basis of the above analysis and findings that we proposed a targeted tax measure for middle-income families where one of the two spouses is a low-wage earner.

Let’s keep in mind that from fuel tax which will be imposed weekly, the state will have additional and permanent revenues of €60 million per year. This possibility should be properly invested in our economy”, the DISY announcement concludes.
